The debate club will be participating in the Nation's Capital Debate League in order to improve students’ researching, writing, and public speaking ability. Each week students will either take notes on a lecture or participate in practice debates to expand their knowledge of current events and prepare for coming tournaments.
The NCDL assigns four topics for students to research about a month ahead of each tournament. The topics will generally be regarding social concerns on the international, national, regional or local levels. Students must research both sides of every topic and be prepared to debate on either side at a tournament.
In addition to their weekly meeting, students must commit 4+ hours a week to research work and team collaborations.
Fees: Students will be required to transport themselves to tournaments. Each student will need to contribute $60 towards club expenses for the whole school year.
